Instructions
for
Repairing Fibreglass
Typical Marine
craft repair such as boat or canoe
|
| 1.
Clean around the inside of the hole with some sandpaper.
(N.B. With the Vothole there is no need
for you to cut another hole in the buoyancy tank to
provide access to repair the original hole)
|
 |
2.
Cut the tie strip off the patch using a knife or scissors.
Place the tie strip through the centre of the patch,
with the tie strip going through the rough side of the
patch.
|
 |
3.
Using the flat side of the patch, place a piece of fibreglass
matting over the whole patch, cutting it to the size of
the patch. |
 |
4.
Mix resin/hardner together and apply all over matting
and patch with an old brush. Lock in the brace onto the
tie strip. The vothole is now ready to be inserted in
the hole. |
 |
5.
Make sure that the patch and matting is fully saturated
with resin, before inserting the patch in the hole. Fold
the patch and insert it in the hole. The patch springs
back to shape covering the inside of the hole. All you
have to do now is hold onto the locking brace and pull
on the tie strip securing the patch into place on the
inside of the repair surface. Place some more resin around
the patch, matting and hole and wait for the resin to
dry. |
|
| 6.
After a couple of hours the resin filler is dry. Cut the
tie strip below the outer surface. Build up the thickness
of the hole with more fibreglass matting and resin, until
the desired thickness is achieved. Once this thickness
is achieved, simply sand back for a smooth and flush finish
every time. |
